It’s All In The Timing

That special picture is a combination of knowing what the horse is going to do next and being able to catch it in that fraction of a second you get before it’s gone. I have heard that a during the transition from one stride to another the time a horse has only one foot on the ground is about tenth of a second that doesn’t give you much time but it does give you an idea of how difficult it is to get that perfect step. As graceful as a horse looks as he is cantering there are moments in the sequence where they are all collected and to be honest they look pretty silly.  If you know how a horse moves it will make your job a lot easier because you will be able to shoot for the most flattering position. If you can get your hands on a training video and have the capability to watch it in slow motion it will make it all very clear to you.
